Rep. Miller on EPA's New Ozone Restrictions

Statement

Today, Rep. Candice Miller (MI-10) issued the following statement after the Administration formally announced the rollout of its new ozone level standards aimed at radically reducing surface-level ozone levels:

"Today, the EPA handed down a final rule to radically reduce ozone levels, a rule that reflects the type of burdensome overreach we have come to expect from this Administration. President Obama, unable to achieve his political legacy through the deliberative legislative process, has turned to governing through regulations and executive orders, and, now, Michigan will pay a steep price for what American manufacturers are calling the most expensive regulation in U.S. history.

"Earlier this year, the Supreme Court nullified another tyrannical EPA rule regulating mercury regulations on coal and oil-fired power plants, citing the agency failed to take the high cost of compliance into consideration. Unfortunately, this ruling was too late for nine power plants in Michigan, all of which were forced to shut down. Again ignoring the high cost of compliance, the EPA handed down a new rule that the National Association of Manufacturers estimates will cost our nation's industries $1.1 trillion, which will undoubtedly have a large impact on the recovering manufacturing industry in Southeast Michigan. I have always maintained that we must be good stewards of our environment. However, we must balance our environmental regulations with the economic burdens on American business."
